Welcome to Hickory Valley Christian School. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our school. Enclosed you will find an application and additional information about HVCS. Please contact us for a tour or for additional information.
We provide a challenging academic program. Each student is given academic opportunities that meet his/her own skill level and learning style. We also teach organizational and study skills. Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for academic challenges when they leave our school and make entrance into other schools. Our hands-on approach includes field trips to Jekyll Island (5th), Williamsburg/Washington, Philadelphia/New York, and Chicago in a three year rotation for Middle School students. We also have student volunteer opportunities and field trips at every grade level to reinforce classroom learning.
We are tucked away in Hickory Valley Christian Church and are a ministry of this church. We have been told that we are the best kept secret in Chattanooga. Jennifer Potter, a former parent and teacher at HVCS, has referred to us as a cottage school, small and personal. Our greatest strength is a warm, nurturing environment where we are trying daily to “raise good Christian children.”
Each day begins with devotional time. Chapel is held on Monday morning and a special Circle is held each Friday. During the morning, academics are taught in classes with an approximate 12:1 student ratio. These include reading, language arts, math, and social studies. Additionally students are offered art, music, library, Spanish, physical education, computer, music and science with lab during afternoon classes.
We provide both before and after school care and an excellent summer program. Additional after school activities include sports, cross country, bowling, golf, gymnastics, piano and scouts. All Middle School students may play on our basketball team or become a cheerleader. It is important during these years to offer every child an opportunity to feel success through a variety of activities. Our small classes offer students a chance to gain confidence and skills to feel successful in high school.
If you would like to learn more about our program, visit our website at www.hvcs.org or call the school for a tour at (423) 894-3200. The first step is to make application. Applications are dated and filed in the order in which they are received. Students visit as openings arise and contracts are mailed following a school visit. We look forward to talking with you.
In God’s love,
